The technology involves a combination of standard vacuum technology with novel nano-technology control scheme that produces multiple band gaps, each absorbing its own share of the sun spectrum.
This is being achieved with breakthroughs in the three areas:source material, the process and the multi-junction stack. As a result of these improvements, efficiency will increase substantially and the cost of the PV Module will decrease.
Source material: Burning Solar uses the element Carbon as its source gas material which is inexpensive, abundant, has unlimited resources and is environmental friendly (non-toxic). The unique carbon based structure enables a wide-spectrum multi-junction solar cell.
Process: The PV device is made in a single continuous process for production of all the multi –junction stack included the Graphene electrodes in vacuum inline process at low temperature (100ºC), which enables flexible roll to roll manufacturing on foil, plastic or other substrates in mass production.
Multi junction advantage: The innovative process uniquely attains precise band-gap control of each junction of the solar cell. A much broader portion of solar spectrum is absorbed and more kilowatt-hours are supplied in comparison to other modules. This is due to Burning Solar’s performance efficiency in diffuse and low light conditions. Overall efficiency is achieved without using concentration and tracking methods. Burning Solar offers the only thin-film technology that will achieve 20% and more efficiency at one third of the KWp/h cost of the chipset actual PV technology.
Other adventages:
Overall efficiency is much higher compared with other PV technologies and without using concentration and tracking methods.
Inherently stable to environmental conditions without the need for cell encapsulation.
